Imagine having an exciting high-paying job that lets you use your creativity to organize the happiest day of people’s lives. Welcome to the world of wedding planning!
There are few careers that offer so many benefits. As a wedding planner you will have a job that is fun, interesting, and rewarding. If you start your own wedding planner business you can enjoy the freedom of being your own boss.
The prospect of becoming a wedding planner has never been more brighter. In the United States alone there have been 2.5 million weddings in the past year alone, 110.000 in Australia and 306.000 in the United Kingdom. In many cases a wedding planner also known as a bridal consultant, wedding consultant, or wedding coordinator was hired to manage and plan for the special day. Couples are increasingly “time poor” and with demanding career commitments many couples lack the time to organize their own weddings. This trend is only set to continue!
In addition to the possibility of running you own Wedding Planner business graduates will typically also gain positions with the following organisations:
- Function centers
- Wedding reception centers
- Event management consultants and companies
- Promotional companies
- Wedding and party planners
- Exhibition venues and services
- Incentive planners
- Fund raising and charity organisations
|Want a Cinderella career?|
It’s a glamorous job! Remember Jennifer Lopez in the movie “The Wedding Planner”? How would you like to be the glamorous Wedding Planner who gets to have all the fun of organizing a wedding and being paid to do it all? Picture this:
A young couple, madly in love, signs you up as their Wedding Planner. You get to dress up and visit all the fancy hotels and wedding venues, and taste the gourmet food provided by wedding caterers. Plus you’ll get to check in to the latest boutiques shopping for the bride and even having a blast at the bridal shower and hen parties!
Picture yourself calling the shots and signing contracts with clients and various wedding vendors, being ‘in’ with the best fashion boutiques in town and always knowing exactly what’s hot and what’s not!
And at the end of the day, when you finally put your feet up, it will be with the satisfaction of knowing that you have just played an important role in making two people’s life’s very happy.

We are also ranked 4th for hospitality and leisure management in the QS World University Rankings 2018.
Our School of Hospitality and Tourism Management has an outstanding global reputation. The events industry is integral to cities, regions and countries and our BSc International Event Management course will enable you to develop specialised skills and knowledge in the thriving events sector alongside a foundation in business management.
What you will study
Our BSc International Event Management course examines large and small-scale events, providing you with a wide range of event-management skills and experience including planning a real event and obtaining an industry recognised events safety passport qualification.
We have industry partners who help us deliver our modules, allowing you to draw upon their wealth of experience in business, and we provide the opportunity to study and become engaged with numerous events that take place throughout the year.
Our Professional Training placements offer you the opportunity to look beyond the UK and consider events on an international scale. You will benefit from our location in the thriving economy of the south east, as well as our close proximity to London.
Professional Training placements
As part of this course you have the option to complete a Professional Training placement. These will give you the opportunity to develop your professional, academic and personal potential, equipping you to be adaptable, resilient, globally minded, confident, entrepreneurial and digitally savvy in the workplace. These qualities are widely recognised by employers and a significant proportion of placement students at Surrey are offered graduate-level jobs or go onto postgraduate study.

Applying for placements
Professional Training placements are usually applied for and secured via an open and free-to-all process, within which students can select and apply for numerous opportunities. Placement providers use their own recruitment and selection procedures and the majority of students will secure their placement in this way. However, support is also provided to students wishing to source their own placement, subject to university requirements being met.
Students are generally not placed by the University, however they are given thorough support and guidance alongside access to a vacancy portal representing thousands of placement opportunities each year. Please be aware there may be travel costs incurred when attending interviews and assessment centres at the placement provider’s premises.
